Company Profile:
The Solar Energy Institute from the Technical University of Madrid was funded in 1979. It is probably the oldest Institute in the world devoted to research in photovoltaic solar energy.
Researching at the Institute is addressed to short term, medium term and long term issues with variable emphasis in basic and applied R&D and includes materials and system aspects comprising normalization.
We are experts in coordination of innovative R&D Projects to develop a full value-chain in the PV field.

Semiconductors and nanotechology: Molecular Beam Epitaxy (GEN10-VEECO)

What we offer:
1. Area of expertise Photovoltatics, Semiconductors, Quantum dots
2. Type of service offered: Customized growths of semiconductors at wafer level
3. Used for: Application in the electronic and optoelectronic fields using a wide range of materials.
4. Main advantages: Automated transfer system, wafer capacity 1x3”, 1x2”. This is the first equipment for R&D installed in Europe not requering manual adjustement, A Pre-charge of 7 wafers with program growths ensures repeatability in the samples.

Reserch center or industries working on electronics, solar, optoelectronic requesting growths of wafers to test their own developments. Our production capacity is very limited at the moment and we can't ensure large batches of wafers.

Pilot production line for customized-manufacturing of multijunction solar cells

What we offer:
The Solar Energy Institute (IES-UPM) offers its:

a) High know-how level and expertise on modelling and manufacturing multijunction solar cells to those companies related to the fabrication of MJSC.

b) Multijunction Solar Cells Pilot Production Line to manufacture customized products for those companies requesting small productions to test their goods or needing a higher security on the supply of these cells.

What we are looking for:
MJSC production pilot line will provide the companies with the flexibility of doing customized these solar cells without the impact on costs that foreign companies charged because of fabricating different solar cells of those they are usually producing. This flexibility includes the manufacturing of solar cells with different sizes and front metal grids, which can be also optimized.
On the other hand, the pilot line consists on letting the companies, i.e. to those devoted to concentrators; reduce risks by using the knowledge generated at Universities and other public centres for their own purpose

Processing solar cells line: from the material to the device

What we offer:
The IES-UPM brings the facilities to process your material into solar cells:

1-Photolitography
1a. Designing of multiple photomasks employing the appropriate software.
1b. Photolitography: development of the technical procedure (choice of chemicals like negative or positive photoresists, starting-up and optimization of parameters).
1c. Development of photolitography for photonic structures.

2- Metallization
A thin film coating system which includes sputtering technique in addition to resistive thermal evaporation,is employed to deposit inorganic multi-layers. The choice of the metal sources (Au, Zn, Pd, etc.) and the optimization of the parameters (power, time and temperature, among others) may lead to the successful manufacture of solar cells

3-Contact processing: RTA or RTP

What we are looking for:
Research groups or industries interesed in converting their materials into solar cells or electronic devices.
