Company Profile:
CARTIF is a horzontal Research and Development Center located in the Technology Park of Boecillo (Valladolid).
Cartif covers a wide range of scientific disciplines (Automation and proccess control, energy, biomedical eng., mechanical eng., business innovation, food and chemicals, robotics and computer vision, TICs and environment)
In environment division, research on valorization of polyolefins through pyrolysis and PET and PU chemical recycling has been done obtaining good results.
Profiltitel

Valorization of waste polymers through pyrolysis

What we offer:
CARTIF has researched in polyolefins valorization through pyrolysis in a fluidised bed reactor, focusing the process to gas fraction obtaining. This fraction is rich in methane and ethylene that can be employed in chemical industry in the production of raw materials and polymers.
This process would permit to recover a waste, converting it in valuable raw materials which would close life cycle of such polymers.

What we are looking for:
We are looking for companies interested in making business with pyrolysis technology to recover polymer waste materials.

Collaboration sought:
  • Technical cooperation
  • Commercial cooperation
  • R&D cooperation

Chemical recycling of PET and PU wastes (glycolysis)

What we offer:
Environment Division of CARTIFhas researched in glycolysis (chemical recycling) of different polymer wastes, more specifically, Polietilen tereftalate (PET) and Polyurethane flexible foams (PU).
In PET case, the monomer Bis-hidroxietil tereftalate (BHET) is obtained with 85% yield and 97% purity.
In PU case, one of two main monomers is obtained (polyol) with 75% yield and high purity.

What we are looking for:
We are looking for companies interested in scaling up these processes to make profit with these recycling technologies

Collaboration sought:
  • Technical cooperation
  • Commercial cooperation
  • R&D cooperation

Environmental criteria in R&D

What we offer:
Sustainable Management Area in Cartif has a great experience in carrying out Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies. We aim to take the lead in proving our researches with the added value of reducing cradle to grave environmental impact.

These are our skills:
Life Cycle Assessment (ISO 14040 methodology) of products, process and services to detail their environmental profile, included Carbon Footprint and Ecolabels.
Eco-design (UNE-EN ISO 14006:2011 methodology): Design of products, process and services with special consideration for the environmental impacts, including the energy consumption, during their whole lifecycle.

CARTIF was the first technology center in Spain to obtain the UNE150301 regulation certification on Eco-design. This fact implies that we offer an added value in all our projects, the sustainability of products and production processes is addressed, considering their overall life cycle. This year, we have been certified in UNE-EN ISO 14006.

What we are looking for:
Collaboration in R+D European projects with big partners, SMEs, technology centers, universities ... to offer our skills. If after these details, you consider that we could collaborate with you to do our best, do not hesitate to ask

Collaboration sought:
  • Technical cooperation
  • R&D cooperation
