PEM fuel cell MEA fabrication technique

What we offer:
Our research group has developed a new fabrication technique which can be used to prepare very efficient MEAs for PEM fuel cells by electrospraying catalytic layers made by depositing electrocatalyst particles (patent application no. P201200341).
Major features of the technique are:
• Device:
– Simple & inexpensive set-up.
– Straightforward scaling from laboratory to marketable sizes.
• Catalytic layers:
– Highly porous material with fractal nanostructure.
– Homogeneous thickness.
– Ultra-low Pt loadings, down to 0.01 mg of Pt per square centimetre.
• Performance (at 4.4 bars):
– Maximum overall Pt-utilization larger than 30 kW/g of Pt.
– Peak power of 600-700 mW per square centimetre.
– Pt-utilization at 0.8 V up to 4 times larger than the DOE target for 2015.

What we are looking for:
We are looking for a partner of the Hydrogen Energy sector dedicated to the design and/or manufacture of fuel cell components and interested in the evaluation and further development of this technique aiming to outline an industrial fabrication process and get a market product.

Parallel Losses Optimization (PLO)

What we offer:
Distribution transformers are reaching increasingly higher levels of energy efficiency but are between 16% and 40% of the energy losses associated with electrical distribution systems.

This research group proposes a method to reduce losses in transformation systems and thus the emission of greenhouse gas (GHG) associated. We propose a method of system optimization of transformer in parallel that has been called Parallel Losses Optimization (PLO) applicable to existing or future facilities and adaptable to any kind of transformer systems.

The system proposed does not require for its implementation of any additional device and allows obtaining energy savings of up to 41% on the initial losses.

The research has obtained patent pending status P201101267.

What we are looking for:
We are looking for an industrial partner in the Energy Sector for manufacturing the device but the wide application of distribution transformers makes the device useful for:

Energy Services Companies (ESCOs)
Energy suppliers
Facilities maintenance
Electric components companies

Both public and private facilities can reduce their energy services by means of PLO system.
