What we offer:
Its research lines fall into soft commputing tecniques as: Evolutionary computation algorithms (genetic algorithms, evolutionary, particle swarm, harmony seach etc.), neural computation algorithms (neural networks, support vector machines, Extreme Learning Machines, Neural network ensembles), modern heuristic optimization.

The applications of this techniques can be found in: Renewable energy, environment (predicting the short, medium and long-term meteorological variables, wind, temperature, precipitation), prediction and optimization problems in insurance, communications network design, study and characterization of radiating elements, etc..

Using artificial intelligence to shorten the time in the wind turbine design process.

What we offer:
The research group GHEODE is currently working about the improvement of the design of wind turbines. By using artificial intelligence methods, several design tasks can be tackled in a much quicker way than by beans of customary techniques, which allows saving a considerable amount of time along such process.

Nowadays, aerodynamic industry makes use of exclusively customary techniques over the different stages composing the design process. These techniques require some computing time (depending on the accuracy provided), which bounds the number of different designs that can be taken into account. By reducing that time through the use of new methods in artificial intelligence, it is possible increasing the amount of considered designs.

Soft Computing Techniques applied to the wind forecast on wind farms.

What we offer:
GHEODE research group offers the use of modern soft computing techniques, deeply teste, to generate automatic systems that will allow performing wind in wind farm. With this technique energy operators could minimize the impact of the penalties for the lack or excess of produced energy and hence maximize the benefit.

The group focuses their work in three soft computing techniques: Neural Networks, Support Vector Machines and Evolutive Techniques.

One of the clearest applications where they have applied these techniques is the wind forecast in wind farms. To do this, given some data series of variables of the wind farm environment, it is possible to built regression models for make forecast of the wind strength in each one of the wind turbines of the specific wind farm. These variables could be time invariant, as the orography around the wind farm, past time variables, as information about the wind in the turbines in past years, or meteorological variables (temperature, wind in a specific point outside the farm…), obtained using meteorological global models. Obtaining the forecast of the wind in each turbine allows evaluating the total energy generated in the wind farm, not only in normal working conditions but also when some of the turbines are broken or in a repair process. Furthermore, it is possible to hybridize these regression models with other meteorological models or even with the network grouping techniques for performance enhancement.

Analysis and heuristic optimization software system for wind farm design.

What we offer:
Gheode research group presents a software environment for the design of wind farms. It is focused particularly on the use of heuristic optimization algorithms to design the location of wind turbines.

The necessary software to allow that the algorithms take into account a great number of restrictions and parameters of the park is being developed jointly. Both in a real design and in the first approximation, it is necessary to know the ideal emplacement of the wind generators, so that the obtained results are coherent with the conditions of the area. It is necessary to consider different factors as the variation of the speed of the wind inside the park, the kind of wind generators to be installed, as well as what kind of zones could be used for the emplacement of the wind generators, so that the obtained results by the algorithms a more efficient solution.
